Gissela Teran named "Shining Star" by professional association

Gissela Teran, a May 2018 graduate of Appalachian State University's interior design program in the Department of Applied Design, has received the Shining Star Student Scholastic Award from the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Carolinas Chapter. The award is presented annually to a student in North or South Carolina who demonstrates exceptional leadership and is heavily involved with the chapter.

Teran, who graduated Summa Cum Laude, served as the IIDA Carolinas campus center director and was also a member of the interior design program's student club executive council. She spent time studying abroad in Florence and was a part of the programming council for Zeta Tau Alpha during her time at the university. She was also the recipient of the prestigious 2017-18 Bergmeyer Scholarship awarded through the Planning and Visual Education Foundation, which provided her with a $1,500 award and the opportunity to take part in an immersive learning experience with some of the interior design industry's top designers at the Bergmeyer studios in Boston.

As the Shining Star recipient, Teran received a $2,000 award and a year membership to IIDA. She was recognized at the 2018 IIDA Carolinas Chapter annual meeting in Durham on April 20.
